There is absolutely no doubt in my mind as to what caused this phenomenon. I basically shrieked "OH GOD NOOO" when it happened. I could see it coming. "THIS IS NOT THAT KIND OF SHOOOOWWWW" is what I shrieked next, and then it happened anyway.
did not watch and don't think I will having 50 other shows I am trying to watch. WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!!

Yea, same reaction here. 3 episodes of backstory where I felt it was coming, but I still hoped that wasn't what you were talking about. God damn you House of Cards for making that a storyline to apparently be emulated!
And now it's been long enough that I don't remember what that was.

Weirdly enough, I guess it kind of makes sense in my head now that it's part of the show's backstory. It might have felt out of place if it had been a bigger deal, but they didn't dwell on it afterward. It came up, it happened, then it was historical fabric, motivational material. Like having a long wind-up to painfully horking up a furball, then moving on with your day.
