Spit-balling, we're probably 12 feet back from the screen, or so.

    Well,

12 feet is the low end of "optimal viewing distance" for a 95 inch screen, based on the 1.5 to 2.5 times guideline. You could go as low as 57.5 diagonal inches (at 1080p) and still be in the right range at a 12 foot distance.

But nobody ever complained about anything being "too big," am I right? nudge nudge

you know what im talkin about

I like to feel like I'm at an IMAX.

Then you should get a 4K projector, that puny 1080p stuff makes pixels the size of your head at 95 inches.

Funny story... after carefully measuring the space and deciding an 80" screen was the biggest we could possibly go, we hooked up the projector and discovered we couldn't shrink the image down that far. I'd need to hang it from the ceiling (closer to the screen) rather than sticking it on a shelf, in order to get the image any smaller. So I immediately tossed all my math into the garbage, took a couple more measurements, and ordered a 109" screen. Sending the 80" one back to Amazon.

This giant fucking screen looks absolutely ridiculous in the room. But I can't wait to watch a movie on it.

I only got a couple things set up, the room's still a mess, the furniture is all in the wrong spot, and no speakers are in place yet. But here's the size of the screen. It's ridiculous and I love it so far. Some day maybe I'll have a dedicated room for this sort of thing.

Some cleanup still to do, but this is more or less the final arrangement. Pleased! We watched (the first 75% of) The Mummy Returns last night, and Rachel Weisz's cleavage was approximately five feet tall. It was clearly not 4K, but it looked just fine to me. Maybe some day I'll become more of a fidelity snob.
