I know we were talking about mice the other night and I said I would link what I use. This is what I use. Nice and simple.

Oh yeah, looks very similar to what I use:

Just no cool "extra weights" system on mine.

My PC is starting to huff and puff a little when I play some games. I think it's telling me to spend a bunch of money to build a new PC.

The problem is that I'm lazy. I'm not one of those guys who likes to read up on the latest on the Intel/AMD wars.

I used to rely on logicalincrements.com but I'm reading stuff saying their recommendations aren't really that great anymore. Also they used to show Intel and AMD and now they just show AMD which makes me wonder if they're secretly sponsored or something.

So, my question is this: What should I read to get back up to speed? Where should I go to research components for a new PC? What sites do you guys find useful these days?

AMD Ryzen chips have been beating ass for the last couple years, so I'm not shocked to find out Intel is at a low point with regard to the nerd community.

But if you're worried about Logical Increments, you can check out something else like PC Part Picker and just copy someone's completed build.

I'd like to get a PC for home use. I was thinking desktop, but then considered maybe that's still since laptops are pretty cheap and powerful these days. Anyone smarter than me have comments on this option... https://www.costco.com/hp-15.6%22-to...100764365.html

Or other suggestions in the $500 range? Thanks!

What do you want to use it for? Does it need to be touchscreen? Would you rather have a tablet PC?

Hard drive is small if you want to use it for any sort of gaming, fine for an office/work PC, fine for a media PC (external HD). Similarly, RAM is low for gaming, fine for most anything else.

No other thoughts on this particular model, but HP seems like it's still a solid brand based on the number of appearances I see in easily-googleable lists like this one.

As for other recommendations, most of these types of lists have winners in categories like "low cost/on a budget" and "best Chromebook."

I'm also considering picking up a laptop, so maybe I need to look into it myself.

I'm looking for "work from home PC" and "general home use PC". We have a Mac that my wife hates (and it's old) so I want a Windows machine. And now that I'm back in my office I want something good enough to use to remote into my office computer, which doesn't take much from what I've heard.

Thanks for the lists! I did some googling myself, but I was looking for that personal touch advice.

If your wife hates her Mac only because it's slow you can get the new MacBook Air with the M1 chip. Those are supposed to be seriously speedy.

"My wife hates our Mac so I want a Windows machine."

"Have you thought about getting a new Mac?"
