Not helpful for the current discussion, but I've been using a
Dell 2405FPW since about 2004. It was an expensive luxury item when I bought it, and it still works beautifully to this day (little bit of burn-in, but that's about it).
More recently, I've been dealing with a lot of LG monitors in my life. I bought myself a 27-inch
LG 27MP36HQ-B in 2015 for around $200, and then for my wife, a 32-inch
LG 32MA68HY-P in 2017 for around $200 again. So it seems like prices are coming down pretty quickly. Both LG monitors have been great at home, and Intuit started buying LG monitors (nicer ones, maybe the
LG 27UK850-W, not sure) for its employees when Apple stopped making the Cinema Display.
So I see LG as the place to go, but Dell also holds a special place in my heart.
I've never looked for a 144Hz or UHD screen. If I get one of those, I'll probably be stuck and never able to downgrade.
