Where do I apply to become an astronaut? Do they take overweight 45 year olds?

I used to think there had to be some driving force behind the universe, that everything -- all the crazy interactions between matter and energy, all the laws and forces that govern reality and keep everything in relative equilibrium -- had to come from somewhere (call it God if that makes you comfortable), that it couldn't all have just come from nothing. But then I learned more about quantum mechanics, and that's the name of the game there: if you have enough nothing, you will inevitably end up with something. Quantum mechanics kind of says the universe couldn't exist unless it had been nothing at some point.

(Oh, but who set up quantum mechanics, ehhh?? You can literally chicken-and-egg your way to a personal god no matter how far back science takes you. The old "infinity plus one" playground conundrum. At some point in the sequence, you either stop believing or you don't.)

So now, this is my religion. It makes me sad to think that what you see and hear in this video isn't beautiful to some people unless they're allowed to imagine some benevolent man in the sky controlling it all.

    That's beautiful

I've always had (slightly) more respect for religious people who are willing to give ground to scientific discovery, rather than yelling "NO SIX THOUSAND YEARS OLD!!!!!" and hiding under the bed until the science goes away.
