    Indie Games

We don't really have a thread just for random cool indie games yet. Here is one! Both a thread, and a game.

I started watching this and I was like at first, but then by about the 2/3 mark I was all instead.

A coworker of mine left the startup I was at last June, saying only that he was going to be working on "a space-based RPG." Hard to say exactly what that meant, but I've been checking his LinkedIn profile periodically to see if he'd post anything I could take a look at. Finally, in the last couple days, he updated his position ("CTO of Mean Games LLC") and linked to his blog for The Black Beyond. Looks like a more polished SPAZ, as far as the visuals go. I'm interested.

Mostly I guess I'm living vicariously through this guy, because who doesn't want to quit their job and make games for a living? My trick is, I don't have an artist and a game design specialist as close friends. I could probably pull a composer out of thin air, but not one who'd want to quit his job and work with me full time (not that the soundtrack to a game requires a full time employee, I guess).

And while we're on the topic of indie games, here are two surprisingly unrelated upcoming titles I'm interested in, titled BELOW and INSIDE.

I also think EITR has some of the most beautiful pixel art I've ever seen in a game, but it doesn't fit the theme of this post.

Measured by Internet Hype, Undertale has gotten a little too big. That said, guys, it has some real good music.

I like following blogs like this one for "HK" because they learn all kinds of neat tricks for game development. For instance, if I were to start working on a game today, I'd...... download UE4 and Substance, I guess? And then cry because I'm not a digital artist! wooo
