Kinect opened up

I hadn't planned on buying Kinect yet, but it looks like it won't be long before MS will tweak the hardware to prevent it from working if an Xbox is not attached. Which means that the current crop of hardware will probably command a premium at resale time. Should I buy one now even with the current lack of attractive games? Thoughts?
